SiegbertSchackniesDr. Siegbert Schacknies, a Renaissance man by every measure, established residence in the Bailey's Crossroads area following retirement from a distinguished career as an architect, urban planner, and transport economist.

When he learned that the Grand Review of 1861 had taken place in his newly adopted "neighborhood," he was determined to bring this event to light in a very visible way.

Unfortunately, Dr. Schacknies died unexpectedly and suddenly on August 21, 2006. He believed people should ensure that past events which have influenced the future course of history be highlighted and commemorated.

This project is being carried forth in his memory and with his vision for Bailey's Crossroads as a place of significance in the history of the United States, Dr. Schacknies's adopted and beloved country.
